Selected in the fifth round of the 2001 draft, Ryan Howard immediately impressed the Philadelphia Phillies' brass with his bat and glove. As a result, he quickly jumped from the minors to the Major Leagues, playing 18 games with the Phillies in 2004 before becoming the team's full-time first baseman in 2005.
